How good does it feel to hear this? When teams or organisations begin to embrace experimentation, I know I'm on the right track with coaching agility.
This recently happened with one of the teams I work with. We were discussing new ways of working to try and someone said 'Let's just try it for a few weeks!'. I wanted to give them the biggest of virtual high fives.
My actionable takeways for promoting a culture of experimentation;
- 𝙍𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 - Let people know that new approaches aren't set in stone, they can and will be changed and should be discussed at retrospectives
- 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙪𝙧𝙚 - Let people know that with experimentation comes mistakes. De-stigmatise failure and rebrand it as 'Learning'
- 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 - When testing against your hypothesis, focus on what the customers / data is telling you as opposed to gut instinct.
What ways do you use to promote a culture of experimentation?
